I am an X lorry driver with 45 years experience smart motorways are absolute suicide, if you have to stop for any reason without an hard shoulder you have no chance if the lorry behind you cannot stop which is very likely, in a car they scare me and I go on the old roads to avoid them wherever possible.
The head of the committee that released that report yesterday has suggested that taking away the extra lane will fill up the A roads, it doesn’t matter how many times I tell them that I get 100’s of emails a week saying I’m going to use the other roads from now on, they don’t listen!
he also said to reinstate the hard shoulder is an insult to anyone that died on a hard shoulder!
