Do you know how your meant to know when you are on a Dynamic smart motorway?
That’s a real question because I can’t figure it out.
I can’t figure out what is a ‘conventional’ and what is a ‘dynamic’ they look exactly the same.
(‘conventional’ and ‘dynamic’ both have a solid white line. ‘All Lane Running’ doesn’t)
I’m more aware of smart motorways than some people and I can’t figure it out.
Many times, on recent journeys we have been on a four-lane motorway with a solid white line painted between lanes 1 and 2 and the gantry above has indicated that we should or shouldn’t be driving in lane 1, but then for miles and miles and miles between these directions the gantries don’t display any direction. (not a dig at Control Room Operators I know they are restricted by NH policy and operation)
I (passenger) often see drivers in the first lane looking around, almost hesitating and then quickly changing to lane 2 because they also seemed confused.
but how do you know what to do in these blank sections? what if you joined the motorway in one of these many miles long blank sections? how do you know if you should or shouldn’t be driving in lane 1.
Is it chopping and changing from one type to another, there’s no signs to say it is, but there’s no signs to say it isn’t.
bearing in mind you’re doing 70mph while trying to figure this out!
***If you join a four-lane motorway and there’s no signs instructing you and you see the solid white line, wouldn’t most people assume they are on a conventional motorway??***
I know a lot of you refuse to drive in the first lane anyway (I know this because I have had many thousands of contacts telling me this) but surely if the “nations safest roads” were actually safe you’d know which type of road you are on.
