As a campaigner against ALR motorways, and joint organiser of the Westminster ‘COFFIN’ Protest, I am amazed and angry at your committee’s
recommendation to the government that there be a five year moratorium on converting conventional motorways to ALL LANE RUNNING.
At the end of the moratorium will you and your colleagues look at the number of people killed and seriously injured during the sixty months and decide if you can recommend to the government to continue with the roll out? How callous!
The Report makes it abundantly clear, Controlled motorways, which permanently retain a hard shoulder, are the safest with lowest casualty figures.
What more evidence does the committee need to recommend the government ceases the ALL LANE RUNNING program immediately and begins the reinstatement of hard shoulders? Sadly, I must assume more deaths and life changing injuries.
In my opinion the committee has deliberately ignored the views of the public that ALR Smart Motorways are dangerous and members are playing politics with the lives of citizens they are elected to represent.
