My first, rough thoughts on what he said:
He is just continuing to distance himself from Highways England. Constantly points out s.m were here before him and uses the world inherited about 5 times. But he is the ultimate boss of h.e this level of “its not me, its them” is costing lives.
My husband was still alive when Shapps became transport minister. And yet in 2 years he still hasn’t managed to get a grip on them.
“I wouldn’t have gone about ‘it’ [the s.m rollout] like this” and he called dynamic motorways “insane” I’d be incandescent right now if I’d lost someone on a dynamic. In a way I hope loved ones that have, see that but then I also hope they don’t. The boss of the department that bought those in years and years ago has just declared them insane in order to defend himself
This constant line about s.m are “as safe if not safer” is smoke and mirrors. The crime commissioner Dr Allan Billing states “this conclusion is arrived at is the result of a flawed way of arguing. I do not believe it is helpful to compare collisions or deaths on the two types of motorway. The relevant test for us is whether someone who breaks down on this stretch of the motorway, where there is no hard shoulder, would have had a better chance of escaping death or injury had there still been a hard shoulder”
Svd improved?? how we only have 23 miles of it??? its taken them 7 years to install that, how are they going to do the whole network in less than 1 year
Claims coroner may not have known about the action plan – did he check? because I was in the room with the coroner and I’m pretty sure he did know about it
Why can’t we un do s.m? it’s just turning the lights off, that’s all that’s needed to save lives, why do we need land? aren’t we meant to be committing to climate change and public transport, who says we need to expand the motorways?
