“Gutless” Grant Shapps and “cowardly” Highways England declined to appear on Good Morning Britain’s: How Clever are Smart Motorways?
While they hid, Peter Rodger from IAM RoadSmart stepped in to defend them. Rodgers, who is from IAM RoadSmart (a misnomer if ever there was one), did his best, with lots of waffle about “in an ideal world” and “what’s your alternative” But his basic message was, “we don’t care if you die, we just don’t want traffic jams on other roads.”
Suggestion: change your organisation’s name to IAM RoadDumb, like the motorways you defend.Viewers overwhelmingly had his measure but that’s what happens when you try to justify the unjustifiable.
More important than the monkey are the organ grinders. Highways England is a government-owned company and Shapps, as Transport Secretary, is its sole shareholder. How can it be that they refuse to appear in public to defend the death traps they are responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining at the cost of 38 lives and counting. Their arrogance and indifference know no bounds—which is why we’re suing for a judicial review to stop these motorways and for corporate manslaughter.
