It has been 7 years since Jason and Alexandru were killed in the name of an ‘economic benefit’ that never actually worked!
I never thought I would still be campaigning 7 years on, and still not achieved what’s needed.
• We have educated the country on what a smart motorway really is. National Highways sneaked them in through the back door so the public couldn’t object to what they didn’t know about
• We put National Highways and smart motorways in the spotlight, so both were scrutinised more, highly paid execs were made to justify actions, decisions, poor staffing levels and unsuitable technology to judges & coroners.
• We got all new smart motorways scrapped
But even though smart motorways have now been acknowledged as too dangerous, too confusing and poorly implemented we have to carry on using the 400 miles of them that already exist!
Campaigning goes against every therapy method recommended for grieving, it is expensive and exhausting and many times in much less than 7 years I have wondered if I should just give up,
Then another member of the public contacts me with their story or I get a “Keep fighting lass” as someone walks past me in the street.
So Smart Motorways Kill has an office!
With support from a local businessman known for helping out local small organisations (I forgot to ask his permission to name him, so I wont for now) SMK is no longer squashed into every cupboard, shelf, storage box in my house and half my attic. It is now laid out in a spacious office right in the heart of Rotherham town centre.
I no longer have to film documentaries in my living room (If I don’t want to) and I have a professional space to meet with the people that I’m working with on upcoming projects.
Losing Jason will continue to affect mine and Jasons family for the rest of our lives, but we try and find comfort in each other and all positives as they come our way and this new step is a big positive that will allow me to be more organised and productive, so let see what we can achieve now!
