I spent most of my working life driving on our motorways some 40,000 miles per year. When I first realised what the lane changes Highways England had made I was shocked that such a dangerous policy was being done to the driving public. The lane change is clearly deadly to any car which has to stop in an emergency, the lane closure of the old hard shoulder places any car and occupants in an unsafe state and this policy if allowed to continue will lead to more deaths! Highways England should now change the system and allow motorway driving to be as it used to be as soon as possible,failure to to this urgently will be a failure of duty to the road users it has a duty of care to protect!
