Summary of Recent ORR Report

Excellent summary of the recently released report by the roads regulator  the Office of Road and Rail on Smart Motorways. Its another report that unenforceable, so completely toothless, for approx. the 35 time in 3 and a half years we’ve paid people to sit round and point out the obvious, but not take any action.

Hi Claire – I do hope you win the day in respect of these hateful SMART motorways. I’m a retired surveyor and know exactly why government went for SMART. Less car breakdowns is just a convenient distraction. The cost and delay involved in widening motorways, through buying more land, is huge and this is the real issue. Eeking out more space in land already owned is easily the most cost efficient means of increasing traffic capacity and this needs to be called out as the miserly reason for taking this awful route. It is this COST aspect on which the government should be attacked. Can I suggest a useful acronym you could adopt as part of your campaign would be:
SAVE MONEY AND RISK TRAGEDY (SMART).
    Good Luck.
