MPs wants the roll-out of the smart motorways – where there is no hard shoulder – to be scrapped amid claims they are dangerous – and Worcestershire motorists agree.
Worcestershire motorists have branded smart motorways “total death traps” and have called for them to be scrapped.
MPs want the Government to halt the roll-out of the motorways after a rise in the number of accidents on them.
And drivers in Worcestershire have agreed – saying the roads are “accidents waiting to happen”.

There are smart motorways all across the UK – including the M5 and M42 – and the type causing most concern is where the hard shoulder has been scrapped and turned into a live fourth lane of traffic.
It means that any vehicle which breaks down has to either drive to a refuge point and ring for help, or wait for the motorway control room operators to spot they are in trouble and block off that lane.
On the M5 there are two smart sections: from Junction 4a (M42 interchange) and Junction 6 (Droitwich) and then Junction 15 to Junction 17 at Bristol.
On the M6 they are between J4 – J10a and J10a – 13. The M42 has two sections: J3a to M40 and J7 to J9.
