We have A LOT of new visitors to our social media and website, so I’d like to reiterate that the problem with particularly All Lane Running (ALR) smart motorways is not just the missing hard shoulder, (but can you and every person in your vehicle get out the car and over the barrier before the vehicle behind hits you?)
it’s also:
.
* how do emergency workers get to an incident, when every second matters, when all lanes are full of traffic that cant go anywhere?
.
* the technology is not up to the job, the control room operators and highways staff are doing their best, but the tech is known, proved and accepted to not be up to the job. It doesn’t detect stopped vehicles in any lane, it doesn’t alert the operators to close lanes, it doesn’t “manage the traffic” or “improve journey times” its risking your life for no benefit.
.
*the blame is being moved to the driver “check your vehicle before EVERY journey” there wont be one highly paid, bonus receiving exec at National Highways that does that, yet if your engine fails, in lane 3 and their tech doesn’t spot you on a dark, wet night, in one of their many cctv dead spots, (the sensors DO NOT close the lanes, a human has to “verify” that is needs closing after a sensor alerts them to it)
While you have your kids, grandma or wheelchair in the vehicle with you, its your fault!
.
Grant Shapps have you seen the hundred and hundreds of vehicle faults and recalls (mainly for very new vehicles) on what is basically your own company website? https://smartmotorwayskill.co.uk/victim-blaming-new-cars…/
.
“THERE’S OVER 2080 FOR VEHICLES LAUNCHED SINCE BEGINNING OF 2020, THERE ARE 6160+ FOR VEHICLES LESS THAT 5 YEARS OLD!!”
