NO ALL LANE RUNNING SMART MOTORWAYS

Dear Mr Harris

For many years National Highways and Highways England have persisted in claiming All Lane Running Smart Motorways are as safe, or safer, than motorways with hard shoulders.

The recent announcement that no more smart motorways will be built because, to quote the Prime Minister, ‘Smart Motorways are unpopular because they are unsafe’ is welcome news.

I would suggest in view of the government’s decision your position as CEO of National Highways is untenable and you, and those directly responsible for the ALR policy which has cost so many lives, should resign.

If the schemes, currently under construction, are completed and opened without hard shoulders National Highways will be liable for deaths and life changing injuries because the company will have KNOWINGLY constructed UNSAFE roads.

Yours sincerely

Mike Rawson
