I listened to you this morning on the 3 Counties Radio JVS Show.
There is no argument in whether or not Smart Motorways should be scrapped and playing Devils Advocate that to do so would hinder people’s journeys is totally insensitive and frankly, ludicrous.
Weighing up of pleasing drivers that want to make faster progress against loss of life is beyond comprehension.
If the like of Grant Schapps were told to take their family on a Smart Motorway and sit tight or stand by the vehicle for 4 hours whilst waiting for a recovery vehicle, I’m sure they would see and experience the totally unnecessary risk to life.
Also, what no one mentions these days is the size of new cars; they are like military vehicles with performance in the electric cars on par with sports cars. They are often full of distraction with overactive kids, dogs and infotainment gadgetry all making it so easy for the driver to loose concentration increasing risk to the poor individuals broken down i the path of traffic.
Also, we should be driving smaller cars which collectively take up a lot less space so that you don’t need to remove the hardshoulder to accommodate the resultant congestion.
Rant over !! But I hope decision makers may read this.
