The victim blaming and frankly ludicrous comments that have been coming from National Highways for years now inspired me to look up current recalls for all vehicles used in the U.K. This info can be found on the governments website >here<

There are over 970 recalls for vehicles just LAUNCHED this year!!!  so much for new vehicles don’t breakdown!  some of the faults include:

“FRONT SPOILER SIDE COVER CAN COME ADRIFT DURING OPERATION OF VEHICLE”

“FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BOLTS COULD SEPARATE UNDER OPERATION”

“A SOFTWARE UPDATE OF THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAMME (ESP) CONTROL UNIT IS REQUIRED”

“AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY BE FITTED WITH BRAKE DISCS WHICH ARE NOT TO SPECIFICATION”

“A HIGH HEAT COULD DEVELOP IN THE MUFFLER CAUSING THE UPPER RIGHT HAND VENT GRILL TO MELT”

“THE DRIVER’S AIR BAG MAY TEAR DURING INFLATION”

“TRANSMISSION MAY LOCK AT LOW SPEED”

The faults listed above are for a range of vehicles from small to large, from high end to not high end, but they are ALL for vehicles only launched this year! (so not even 12 months old!!)

There’s over 2080 for vehicles launched since beginning of 2020, there are 6160+ for vehicles less that 5 years old!!

 

but according to National Highways and government advise its “your responsibility to check your vehicle before every journey” I can guarantee that very few of the exec at N.H do that every day.

“New cars are less likely to break down”  Cars are getting more complicated, they are computers, chips and processors now. Look at the figures from the governments own list. The number of problems/recalls increases massively year after year.
