We asked for you to copy us into your letters and emails to your MP’s and to National Highways

This is the response so far and its not even all of them!
Keep them coming. Keep telling those paid to represent us what you think.
Also worth asking any motoring organisations what their policy is, they take your money but will they stop to recovery you from a Smart Motorway? or will you be charged the inflated fee, to remove you from the “dangerous environment” (which National Highways put you in) and then recovered from the second location by your provider

I regularly travel from Cornwall to Bedfordshire and back via the M5-M4-M25 and M1. I have seen several “near misses” with broken down cars and occasionally lorries.
The thinking behind converting motorways into “Smart” motorways years ago is far from being smart, any experienced driver knows this. This is not the answer to reducing congestion on our roads as was originally thought.
It seems now that the government are having to reluctantly accept more people will die as a result and pause any new “Smart” conversions but they are still not going to revert these “Death Run” motorways back !
    This is irresponsible.
Road congestion is a big problem, any solutions require “Intelligent” thinking.

I have raised this matter with my MP and with the government direct and I encourage more sensible thinking drivers to do the same.

    Dear Claire Mercer
I am fully behind your campaign to re instate Hard Shoulders
Have you considered this as a tactic, when I am faced with driving on a Smart Motorway I never drive on the inside lane, this involves other vehicles undertaking or going past outside me You would be surprised the chaos this causes
